welfare and inclusion

Back again for another year, Ellie (they/she) from our Thebans Hydra is welfare lead. Please feel free to contact them — or any other Theban in hi-vis — if you have any questions or concerns, we’re here to help! We will have sticky labels available so you can display your name and pronouns — please do so; normalising not assuming pronouns helps us all!

There will also be at least two sober Thebans at all times during Clinic to help with welfare concerns – follow the WhatsApp updates channel to see who will be helping each day.

There will be an extended welfare meeting with coaches at the beginning of both days of play. This will be an opportunity to communicate our expectations of inclusivity and accessibility in the attitudes and behaviour of everyone, as well as an opportunity to ask any questions. This will be led by Ellie alongside our chair, Sam, and the Transmanian Devils’ welfare officer, Reuben. Coaches will specifically be briefed on best practices for trans and non-binary inclusion.

We will have high-visibility yellow rugby balls available for those with impaired sight, and a dedicated quiet space will be available upon request (find someone in high vis!), but should you have any additional access requirements not covered here or in our FAQs, please email Ellie at vice.chair@thebans-rfc.co.uk

There will be an increased range of non-alcoholic drinks available. Please make sure you have informed us in advance of any allergies and/or dietary requirements - these can be sent to clinic@thebans-rfc.co.uk. Please make sure to remind folk at lunch so you get what you might need.

And as always there will be plentiful condoms and lube courtesy of our sponsors, Waverley Care, from their table in the marquee. Waverley Care is Scotland’s leading HIV and hepatitis C charity, working to create a country where anyone living with or at risk of HIV can expect to be treated with acceptance, support and respect. Make them feel welcome, and use their resources liberally!
